AFAninPlus®

AFAninPlus® is a unique extract derived from Aphanizomen flos-aquae, which is harvested from the undisturbed, high-desert Klamath Lake in Southern Oregon. AFAninPlus has been shown to support healthy immune function and a double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study indicated it also provides rapid improvement in cognitive function and visual acuity in human subjects.* It is manufactured through a proprietary aqueous extraction method that maximizes the presence of its bioactive constituents.

Health Benefits

AFAninPlus® has been the subject of original in vitro and human clinical research showing that it:

  • Promotes a healthy immune response*
  • Promotes positive neuroprotective activity and supports improved cognitive function*
  • Promotes visual acuity and focus/concentration*
  • Promotes antioxidant protection against free radicals*

Mechanism of action

Positively influencing brain chemistry

One of the bioactive constituents of AFAninPlus® is phenethylamine (PEA).

Also manufactured by the brain, this organic compound has powerful effects on cognitive function and mood because it is a neuromodulator of aminergic synapses.* In other words, it modulates brain cell function by releasing neurotransmitters (norepinephrine and dopamine).* In fact, epidemiological research has shown that people with low levels of phenylacetic acid (the main metabolite of PEA) are more likely to experience negative mood states and have difficulty focusing.*

Aphanizomen flos-aquae species contains the highest concentration of PEA of any natural source identified to date. Researchers suspect that AFAninPlus® may help improve cognitive function, visual acuity, and focus/concentration by increasing brain levels of PEA, thus potentially influencing positive brain chemistry.*
